SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION”: BORSAN R&D CENTER

We deliver a seamless energy flow for a greener future. Our diverse portfolio comprises nearly ten of thousand product variations across 150 distinct product families, in copper and aluminum power cables, specialty cables, and low-voltage cables. In Turkey and across nearly 100 countries on four continents, we add value to our customers' operations through exceptional performance in Quality, Cost, and Delivery.

Our R&D efforts uniquely distinguish Borsan within its industry. We prioritize a customer-oriented approach in product and process design, ensuring consistent, high-quality production that fully complies with global standards. Through intensive technology utilization, continuously enriching our product range with value-added solutions, and focusing on environmentally conscious development and production, we drive innovation and sustainability at every step.

At Borsan, regular funding is allocated to R&D investments and activities from the annual turnover. Established within our aluminum cable plant in Samsun and officially registered by the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye on November 29, 2018, the Borsan R&D Center expanded its area to approximately 1,000 square meters in 2023 through new investments. As part of this expansion, a Metal, Materials & Chemistry Laboratory was added to the center to facilitate research on advanced functional material technologies. Operating under Borsan R&D, Product Development, and Design Center Directorate, Borsan R&D Center features a team of more than 50 experts. Our Borsan Cable Integrated Production Facilities, whose foundation was laid in 2025 and which are expected to become operational within a three-year period with an investment of 180 million USD, will include an R&D area spread across 8,000 square meters together with the Administration Building. Our expert R&D team will also be significantly expanded.

Green transformation is a core priority for Borsan’s R&D strategy, reflecting its importance in the global energy industry and value chains. Our R&D Center places great emphasis on developing sustainable products by focusing on innovative and eco-friendly raw material research, as well as supporting local production. In line with its green transformation strategy, the development of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient products, along with obtaining patents, design registrations, and utility model certifications for these innovations, are among its primary objectives.

An example of the projects undertaken by the Borsan R&D Center is the 'Boron-Enriched Aluminum Solar Cable' project, developed by the center and supported under TÜBİTAK's 1507 SME R&D Startup Support Program. This project not only facilitates making solar energy systems more affordable and accessible but also creates a new, high value-added application for the mechanical and structural properties of Turkey’s abundant boron reserves. We take pride in leading the way globally in innovative and environmentally friendly energy solutions, which are a top priority for the world today. As Borsan R&D Center, we will continue to lead the industry with innovative and sustainable technologies—today and in the future.

Aluminum cables, which are a more economical and recyclable alternative to copper, are a focus of the Borsan R&D Center. Additionally, the development of sustainable alternatives to traditional polymers in cable insulation, such as fiber-based materials derived from plants like Abaca (Manila Hemp), and the use of raw materials like boron compounds exemplify our value-added and sustainability-driven initiatives.

As part of our R&D efforts, we collaborate with institutions such as the Secretariat of Defence Industries of the Republic of Türkiye, Presidency of Defense Industries, TUSAŞ, HAVELSAN, ROKETSAN, ASELSAN, Samsun Teknopark, and TRI Metallurgy. We also work with patent organizations including the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and Marpataş Trademark and Patent Office; academic institutions such as Ondokuz Mayıs University and Erciyes University; and umbrella organizations such as the National Boron Research Institute (TENMAK BOREN) and the Nuclear and Mining Research Institute under the Turkish Energy, Nuclear, and Mining Research Institution (TENMAK). In addition, we maintain partnerships with relevant bodies of the European Union.
